Field Trip to the Mary Wood University Arboretum
Students visited Mary Wood University Arboretum in Scranton, PA, on October 16, and studied trees under the direction of Robert Monroe, forester and graduate of Cornell University. Students learned to identify a large number of trees and shrubs in preparation for their tree honor and to meet science standards.
On October 17, students continued their study of trees with Mr. Monroe in the classroom and area around the school. They have made a collection of at least 15 local tree varieties and have learned about the uses of different types of wood. Mr. Monroe also talked with them about the importance of proper forest management.
Farewell to the Gerbils
Students said a sad farewell to the gerbils that have been visiting with us since the beginning of the school year. They had a "Gerbil Party" which was lots of fun for students and gerbils. Our little friends will be missed.
